Gwyneth Paltrow was Right About the Post-Flight Sauna: It’s the Best.

The Spa At Steigenberger Frankfurter Hof

As much as it pains me to say  – Gwyneth Paltrow was right, heading to a spa is the best thing to do after landing. Yes, I am agreeing with the same Gwyneth who sells magically charged stones for $85 and failed the food-stamp challenge in a pathetic four days.

When I land, I try to find a sauna to sit in for 20 minutes to help me sweat out all the germs from the plane. – Gwyneth Paltrow, New York Times, March 2016

I don’t worry about germs but I do feel grimy after a long flight. We were lucky to visit a spa post-flight on a recent trip to Germany, not on Gwyneth Paltrow’s advice but by coincidence.

Germany is renowned for their spas and spa culture. Due to our tight itinerary last December, we had to head directly from the plane to the spa. We didn’t want to miss out on a real German spa experience. The fact we went right after landing was due to time not because we thought the experience was going to be better that way. But, the experience was better. You might be saying “duh,” but many things in society are overrated, like 3D movies for example.

We started with showers, massages, a steam, the cold room and then the sauna. After our treatments, we were not only ready for the night but for the rest of the trip. Give it a try.
