Don’t Wait Until You Retire to Travel

Port hole travel

I hear it often when meeting new people, “I’ll have plenty of time to travel after I retire.” It’s second only to “I haven’t even seen the USA yet” in the realm of travel excuses. If you’re waiting until you’re gray to hit the road, consider these three reasons not to wait:

1. Your health isn’t guaranteed. The average age of retirement is 63 in the United States. Stamina aside, your best years for long trips are likely in the present not the future.

2. Travel expands minds. Traveling during your formative years has benefits. Travel is “fatal to prejudice, bigotry, and narrow-mindedness.” – Mark Twain.

3. Saying you’re waiting is likely just an excuse you don’t really believe. Ask yourself, what am I really waiting for? Is it anxiety? The fear that you can’t travel alone? Etc?
